My Place in Bicheno
By Angela Poynter
I live in a small rural town called Bicheno which is on the east coast of Tasmania, Australia. My cottage is nearly on the beach itself as we are renting 3 acres, when I walk about 50 metres, there is the most beautiful site one can imagine. The sea ia a beautiful colour of Turquoise and white sands. I also have a pet sheep and 2 parrots, unluckily both of my dogs are no longer with us, one died of a tick bite and the other one was stolen from the beach, but will be getting another small dog soon. In Bicheno we have a few shops e.g. supermarket, hardware, gifts shop, newsagency, butcher, chemist and lots of bed and breakfast places, also a hotel-motel where most of the locals hang out. In the summer months there is an influx of tourists so that this sleepy town of around 900 inflates to over 2,000 at times.
